Wireless Networking on an OLD laptop.

I have my dad's old laptop here.

An Acer 508DX.

Now all I'm trying to do is get it to connect with my old 'b' pcmcia card (belkin)

But when I try to put in the wep key which is a hex value. It refuses saying i need to put in a 40/104 bit key in.

I've got the latest drivers for the belkin card and winxp sp2 on there (not updated yet - as I can't get it on-line yet).

Can anyone tell me why I can't put in the right key?

Cheers in advance dilli.

Does the old card actually support the hex key bit format that you are trying to use, with the current network?

I used to use the same card in my laptop - 'till I bought an internal card. So I've used the card with the same key, just on a different machine.

So you may of course spank me - but I'm gonna :bump:

'cos I'm pretty desperate.

well it sounds to me that it needs a key of either 40/104, im guessing the one you are using is 128 try downgrading the cipher strngth to 40 enter the new key and see what happens..
