"Wireless" 5.1 - Are there any out there?

Hi All,
Thinking of renewing my existing 5.1 for my PC - basically because its sitting in the cupboard and wont be getting used in my pad becuase of the wires that go to the satellittes, which got me thinking, is there such a thing as a wireless 5.1 system and - if there is - are they any good?

I would think that most wireless speakers are either battery operated (i.e. probably not very good/practical), or active speakers that need to be plugged into the mains. With the latter, you may not save much re. wires.

I've been wanting that for ages... Might be a tad dangerous though :)

Only a 4 speaker set though, and a hell of a price!

Another option may be "virtual surround", my friend's Altec lansing 880 set has this, where the "rear" speakers are actually set at the front, and angled out to bounce back from the sides

http://www.hardwarecentral.com/hardw...eviews/1210/3/ - the two modes described.
The 880 is also a 4.1 setup, with the control system allowing adjustment of the virtual centre, and unlike more recent 5.1 systems driven from 3 soundcard outputs, the 880 is dependent on Pro-logic(analog) or digital modes.

A magentic pulse being sent out could be made to only move a small motor using magnetic force thus creating the power needed, in time could be perfected likely to being able to give wireless power to small applications.

Likely though you would have to plug in the woofer though considering how much power they need to give the boombox effect.
