home cinema/surround sound set up

It's me again :dozey:. Anyway currently the living room has one of these:

Relisys RLT1720

and one of these:

Yamada DVX-6600

The next step instead of using the frankly crappy speakers that the tv has, is to get some decent speakers going in the living room. Currently they are connected up to a cambridge amp and speakers which are big and beefy, but ideally a 5.1 setup is desired.

The tv has these holes apparently:

It also has two RCA audio-ins and a 3.5mm stereo audio-in.

And the DVD player has these holes:

There is also a freeview box and a computer wired up...

Anyway, can anyone recommend soemthing ~£100 that could cope with this system? Home AV is not my fortÃÃâ€*’©...

How about the Logitech Z-5300 THX certified 5.1 speaker system?

105 quid from MicroDirect and gets a good review too.

Quote:

After the pictures are taken and the product is tested, I was honestly trying to find something I could find as a considerable shortfall when considering this system. There just really isn't a reason not to pick this system up if the almighty Z-5500 is a little beyond your budget and power requirements. The system sounded great, everything was made perfectly and everything setup without an issue noted. As stated earlier, the only thing I could drag out as a weakness was the slightly lacking higher frequency range.

If you are considering this system, go ahead, you will be definitely happy.

Pros:
- Available Everywhere
- Powerful for the Price
- Excellent Subwoofer
- 280 Watts RMS Power
- Look's Great
- Excellent Build Quality

Cons:
- Heavy
- Slightly lacking higher frequencies.

£100 for THX-certified? i thought THX systems were of the "£5 00 and up" category... my how times have changed...

Logitech make some good stuff for sure, although i would point out that as the review says they dont just give away THX certification, it has to be earned.

yeah, i thought that THX was a super-duper standard or something... if only my budget would stretch to the Z5500s.... ah well...

Whats wrong with the 5300's though - it fits your budget perfectly?

I always thought THX certification had something to do with handling a certain power output level whilst still sounding crisp ...

A good intro (if it makes sense!) : http://timefordvd.com/tutorial/THX.shtml
