Help required re SCART set up for TV etc
Hi all, sorry if i've posted in wrong place.
Here's my problem: i want to be able to watch a DVD (benefiting from clearer image etc of course) and a VIDEO without having to swap scarts around manually every time. Current setup as follows; HITACHI TV (with 2 SCARTS: AV1 & AV2 + 1 AERIAL: IN) SAMSUNG VHS VCR (With 1 SCART + 2 AERIAL: IN & TV) PACE DIGITAL BOX for SKY viewing (With 2 SCART: TV & Video + 3 Aerial: IN, RF Out1 & RF Out2) TECHNIKA DVD Recorder (With 1 SCART + 2 AERIAL: Coaxial & Video) help very much appreciated Regards KBell |

:welcome: to cableforum.
This is a similar way to how I used to have my system set up (until I added a Tivo Digital Video Recorder, which meant re-wiring). Put simply, you connect the DVD player to a scart socket on it's own. You then attach the Video to the VCR socket on the Pace STB, and the other scart socket on the Pace STB (usually labelled TV or RGB) to the free scart socket on the TV. Failing that, you can get a Scart switchbox (which gives the advantage you can add other devices in the future) like http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?...=43154&doy=8m8 |
Re: Help required re SCART set up for TV etc
Thanks for your very speedy reply Stuart.
Looks like i've made aboob then? ie purchasing a 'Multi Scart Adapter', which is supposed to connect up to 5 AV sources to the TV? (NB No switches on this adapter, just a single scart lead off a 5 pinned SCART box). mm only problem connecting DVD player to say SCART 2 on TV is that i dont benefit from clear pic and sound (ie not going through SETBOX, as VIDEO would be grabbing that slot)!? |

Re: Help required re SCART set up for TV etc
The ability of multi scart adaptors to autoswitch effectively can depend on the transmitting device (STB, VCR, DVD, etc). Some do send a signal (Pin 8 on the scart lead I beleive), whilst others only do so intermittently. I know for example that the ntl STB I have might have to be told to switch channels a number of times before the TV detects the STB and switches to the appropriate AV channel.
If your multi scart relies on auto switching, you need to ensure that other devices connected to it (VCR, STB) are at least in standy when you want to watch the DVD, and so on. |
Re: Help required re SCART set up for TV etc
Forgot to mention, when i did use the 'multi scart adapter' i puchased, and connected this adapter to 'VIDEO' SCART on SETBOX, with DVD Rec and VCR then SCARTED into Adapter. Could watch DVD nice and clear, but VCR was real fuzzy and wasnt picking up from usual channel 6 via SKY(SETBOX) when playing. ie had to switch SKY controls to TV and then search channels eventually found 'can't remember which channel though, but it was so fuzzy'. Any ideas please?

Re: Help required re SCART set up for TV etc
Dunno how you are wired up, you need to be certain that the STB is sending the right type of signal for the VCR to receive. Some VCRs need composite rather than RGB signals via the scart lead. There may be a way of checking this setting in the STBs configuration menus.
My recommended wiring (scart): STB #1 > TV #1 STB #2 > VCR in DVD #1 > multiadaptor in #1 VCR out > multiadaptor in #2 Multiadaptor out >TV #2 |

Re: Help required re SCART set up for TV etc
OK, got it to work as follows;
Aerial Coaxial Connections Wall Socket>STB>VCR>TV Scart Connections DVD Player>MultiAdapter VCR>MultiAdapter MultiAdapter>STB>TV(AV1) nb TV(AV2) unused DVD Player Result: Plays as expected *Video Player Result*: Doesn't play as expected Although plays, picture has a series of 'small horizontal lightning flashes' across the picture. Running off Channel 0/60(VID). Maybe it's just a case of getting a better quality Adapter? |
Re: Help required re SCART set up for TV etc
try connecting VCR scart out to TV scart AV2 That should give as good a picture output to the TV as possible.
Of course the recording onto the VCR will be limited to the quality (read lack of quality) of the coaxial aerial feed from the walls socket / STB feed. |
Re: Help required re SCART set up for TV etc
IMHO you don't need any form of SCART switch. Start with this: (you can ignore the FM connection and the HiFi)
... and then connect the DVD recorder to AV2 on the TV with another SCART lead. More suggestions here: http://www.dtg.org.uk/publications/b...guidelines.pdf |

Re: Help required re SCART set up for TV etc
My TV upstairs in my room, only has one scart socket. Untill now my PS2 was connected to this scart socket. But having recently got Sky+ downstairs in the living room, i have taken the non Sky+ box (Grundig) and i now have that in my room. So i went and bought something similar to what Stuart posted in his post. So now, i dont have to keep chopping and changing everytime i want to use the PS2, as i can have them both plugged in at the same time. These are very handy to have, like Stuart said if you want to connect future devices to you TV.
