Have you CTRL+ALT+DEL'ed to see if anything is trying to choke the CPU or RAM? Sounds like something is stuffing your resources.

One good catch-all thing to try is make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics and sound cards.

Also, make sure that Direct X is up to date on your system (although if you have XP Service Pack 2, it should be). http://www.microsoft.com/directx

Also, your Media Player may not be using the best settings. Which Media Player are you using? If it is WMP10, click the down arrow in the title bard, then "Tools", the "Options", the "Performance". If you can, drag the "Video Acceleration" slider to Full.

Click "Advanced", then "Use Video Mixing Render" and "Use overlays" for both Video Acceleration and DVD video.

My drivers are all upto date. I use media player 10, power dvd 6 and nero media player they all do the same thing. Could it be the hard drive starting to pack up???

If it happens while the hard drive is being accessed, it could be.

Also, it's worth making sure that XP is using Ultra DMA mode for all your hard drives (the exact setting for this depends on your motherboard, but it will be under Hard drive controllers in Device Manager).

They are all on dma settings. The films are all on other drives. I'm starting to think that my C drive is not upto scratch anymore. Maybe running 24/7 over 3yrs is not doing it anygood:D
