In Car Head Unit recommendation
Hello,
Can any here recommend a In Car Head Unit? Must be a tuner / CD - capable of MP3 playback - and must have an audio (think these are 3.5mm jack sockets). Also - DAB if possible. Does such a beast exist? Not to worried about what manufacturer! Cheers, Lee |
Re: In Car Head Unit recommendation
I have a JVC KD-G612. Has all of the above, except DAB...
got it from here >> http://www.caraudiodirect.com/ you pay a heavy premium on car audio for DAB functionality... |

Cool - thanks Dave. Do you use the input? If so, what's the quality like? I'm planing to connect up an MP3 player to it.... Lee |
Re: In Car Head Unit recommendation
yeah, i connect it to my zen micro with a normal 3.5-3.5mm plug. as long as the volume is up to the max on your mp3 player, the quality is at least the same as through a good set of headphones, if not better :)

http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProdu...=ICA+CD+Tuners It also comes in black and I got it from Car Audio Plus for £200 which included delivery and was delivered in 2 days. http://www.caraudioplus.co.uk/pp/CD_...CDX-F7750.html The unit has MP3 & ATRAC3plus playback and the sound quality is exceptional. I had a different MP3 player in my car before and the difference is sound with the sony is unbelievable. It is loud with clear definition and made my old player the weak link in my system. I would forget about DAB unless you really want it as I looked into it and you do pay a premium like Dave Stones said and not many manufacturers do built-in DAB receivers. The only one I found was a JVC and you then need to attach the aerial to your windscreen and depending on the coating of the windscreen, the reception may not be any good. The alternative is to buy a dab receiver which for a JVC head unit costs around £150. One question though, why would you want to connect up an mp3 player if the unit already has mp3 playback  |

Why? No real reason, but I thought it might be a good idea for system expandability! Lee |
Re: In Car Head Unit recommendation
Went to Halfords today - just to have a look mind....
Come across one of these: http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/1290...r-radio-1.html I know it's a s*** make but as I said - not worried about that - it's the functionalty now...It has a USB input - now the question is - if I was to plug in my 60GB USB 2.0 Hard Disk - would I be able to listen to the MP3s it would contain. The drive is USB powered. The Muppet sales-teanager and deputy manager would not remove the plastic car - hi-fi security "screen" - you know the type - thus I could not get the cable in there to try it....gits! They insisted only one person was allowed to remove the screen - all I wanted to do was plug a bleedin' cable in!! Lee |
