brainteaser

I'm having a bad day, and an evil friend sent me this.... took me ages to get the right answer.

I'll put the answer below, so don't cheat but post whether you got it correct or not. Check the first Spoiler after making your first guess :)

if a bat and ball cost £1.10 and the bat is £1 more expensive than the ball then how much is the ball?????

First Spoiler
Spoiler:
If you said 10p then you're wrong... try again before checking below

Answer
Spoiler:
The ball costs 5p and the bat costs £1 more than the ball, ie £1.05, so the bat and the ball costs £1.10

Re: brainteaser

well it has to be 5p seeing as the ball can't be free!

Got it straight away here too.

Easy if you understand that
Ball = cost of ball.

Bat = 100 + Ball
Total = 110

Writing a simple equation gives
Total = Bat + Ball = 1 + Ball +Ball

Thus 2 Balls = 10p which means 1 Ball = nah.....ain't worth a spoiler.

This all happened so fast I doubt if i spent more than 2 seconds thinking about it. Certainly took longer to write this post.

Bah, I thought it was kinda tricky. Fooled me for a while, but then again, I don't do numbers :D

Well done to those less numerically-challenged than myself :)

simpler to think that the difference has to be £1 so split the remainder which is 10p between th two items and then add the £1 to the bat
