RG54G2 - HELP. Can't get a connection with Broadband.
Hello.
I'm having a problem with getting an internet connection when linking my wireless broadband router with NTL broadband. Basically, I'm trying to share the connection through the wireless gateway with two other computers. However, the internet doesn't seem to want to work when I'm using the wireless gateway router (all plugged in correctly, I assume). My System Properties: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Computer: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+ 2.00GHz 992 MB of RAM - I'm trying to share the connection using MSI Wireless 11g Broadband Router RG54G2. - I'm using NTL Broadband - Ethernet. Under Network Connections: NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Adapter - Currently Enabled Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC - Currently Unplugged Realtek is the one used with the wireless router. Here are the Realtek properties: Local Area Connection Status Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Address Type: Arranged by DHCP IP Address: 192.168.1.5 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.1.2 Network Connection Details: (Includes the above ^) Physical Address: 00-40-F4-B2-96-3D DHCP - 192.168.1.2 DNS Server - 192.168.1.2 WINS - (BLANK) MSI Manual states that the gateway's IP is 192.168.1.254. However using that as the default gateway by changing the network settings doesn't work. There's also the scenario with the packages being sent when I'm attempting to work through the router. Selecting Status for the Realtek Network (when all cables are inserted correctly- (assuming what I am doing is correct), the packets are being sent, but very few are being received. I'm trying to share the internet connection through the gateway with 2 other computers (one is WIndows 98, other is Windows XP). If this is of any relevance, previously I have used this gateway and everything has worked perfectly using the same equipment. However, I re-installed both XP and Windows 98.. and since then there has been problems. Help would be appreciated. It's probably a small problem, I'm just at a loss currently after attempting to try and fix it. Thanks |

:welcome: to the site.
I'm sure someone who knows what they are talking about (sorry not me) will be along shortly. |

Can both computers see each other or is there a complete failure with the networking? Might be worth using a cable between 1 pc and the router to set everything up and then take it wireless.

Thanks. But at the moment I can't begin to configure the other PC's. I'm having trouble even trying to access the internet from the central computer via the wireless router.

I think you will find that IP address is actually the access IP for your router, it's how you get into the admin screen for the router itself.

You should be able to leave windows to itself as far as configuring the IP addresses for the computers, they should be set to automatically get the IP from the router. Can you check your Internet Explorer connection settings to make sure you are not specifying a proxy right now? |
Re: RG54G2 - HELP. Can't get a connection with Broadband.
I've tried what you have suggested, however, still doesn't work.
Everything is automatically configured. I've noticed that the following all have the same values: Default Gateway: 192.168.1.2 DHCP Server: 192.168.1.2 DNS Server: 192.168.1.2 However, IP = 192.168.1.5 (MSI Default gateway (as stated above) - 192.168.1.254) With the packets, if I look under status connection when working through the wireless router, it states: Status Connection: Connected Speed - 100.0mbps No signal. When I open a browser, the status loading bar flashes quickly, if I look back to the realtek status - more or less 2 packets have been received while 2/3 have been sent. ?! Zone Alarm is showing up as it normally would. Everything seems normal and correct. I'm just not receiving enough packets. Do you have any suggestions with what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it? |

Have you changed any settings within the router? |

Did you reboot the cable modem before connecting the router?

Re: RG54G2 - HELP. Can't get a connection with Broadband.
Ok, I reset the router a while ago, I powered it up in the order you suggested, but I'm still having the same problems.
I don't understand completely what you mean when you said via cable? I don't think it's possible as there isn't anywhere to fit another cable. I'm receiving packets, just not enough. So there's comething there, there's just a problem somewhere..? |
