Might want to post the complete error message, how are you receiving the emails? Through Outlook Express? Also what email accounts are affected or is it all of them?

Re: E-mail Problem

Here is the error message i get:
A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Account: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Server: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

Have you tried re-booting to see if that will unjam things? It seems to be a problem caused by Anti-virus tools, you could also try checking that AVG is showing no errors and is up to date.

If it's just a timeout, the problem could be transient. I'd just try again after lunch.

Could just be that particular server since I checked my email through OE while writing my last reply and it got in first time and checked my NTL account, it could also be a problem with the AV software trying to scan a file and causing the time out issue.
I'd use the webmail interface to log in and see if any emails have any attachments that could be causing the problem, if you can't log in through the webmail tool then it's probably the email server you are trying to connect to causing the problem. If you can get in through webmail then it may be AVG throwing a tantrum about something.
Did you try a reboot by the way?

May just have been a glitch with AVG, files locked down etc. A reboot often resolves a lot of problems quickly and easily.

Re: E-mail Problem

Paul i've checked that theory out and i don't think this is the case. i ran ntl netguard with outlook express still running and i was getting same error.
However when i switched netguard off the problem went and it appears to me i may have a software conflict with netguard and outlook express,it seemed the way to me anyway

Re: E-mail Problem

Are you running AVG and netguard together? If you are then that is the problem. You will cause yourself no end of problems running 2 AV tools together as they will tend to fight for control over files etc.

Re: E-mail Problem

i got that once for 2 days, so i got my e mails through webmail deleted them and bingo it was fine again i think it was an e mail from a pornbot that was being blocked or something.

my fault though i was using my ntl address in my profile on yahoo

Re: E-mail Problem

You can only have one running at all times, if you try having both running real time scans you will upset your system in a major way. You can keep both installed but only one can be running in the background at any time. The other can be run manually as a secondary check if needed.
It's up to you which you choose to keep.
