Tuning a new VCR
 

I got a new (secondhand) VCR today - with no instruction manual. I found out from my previous VCR manual that we have to use channel 36 to get into the on screen menu and so to be able to autotune. I have done this and got everything working, but the only number I could get the VCR onto (to save going to Channel 36 every time) was 99 (two back from channel 1) It works on that but calls it 60. I want to get it to be 0 the same as my precious VCR, but it does not show a 0. The VCR screen is inbetween 1 and 99, but is just snow, so can't be used. Any ideas? Would it help to get a scart lead?
I may be a pensioner but I don't like to be beaten by a bit of hardware.

if the vcr and tv both have scart connecors, then a scart lead would simplify the whole thing immensely...

...and give you a better picture.

Yep, connect a scart lead from the VCR to your TV and then the channel should automatically be assigned to the channel AV, or in some cases channel 0 on the TV.

Do you know the make and model number of the VCR? It may be written on it somewhere?

The reason I ask is two fold.

Firstly, someone here might have the same VCR and be able to talk you through the process.

Secondly, we might be able to find you an instruction manual on the web somewhere.

No promises on either I'm afraid, but you never know ;)

If you did get a Scart lead you should find that when you turn the VCR on (with your TV switched on) your TV should switch to the appropriate AV channel and display the picture from the VCR.

Occasionally you can find an electronic copy of the manual for electronic products on a manufacturer's website. Might be worth a :google:

To back up what Rob said, try googling for either the manufacturer name or model number and add "PDF" or "Manual" to the end.

VCR - Do you run a museum :)
If you get the serial number off the back of the unit and type it into a search engine like google you should be able to find the instructions easily enough.
Then work out where the DVDs go into it :)
