What is Netguard? A comprehensive, easy to use suite of PC security software. Includes free Anti-virus, Pop-up Blocker, Form Filler and Privacy Manager. How will it help you? Cleans and protects your PC from 140,000 viruses & other security threats. Automatically cleans infected files and blocks virus attacks. Looks like a good deal; being free ;) - going to try it out... |

Good link :tu:

Re: ntl Netguard
its quite good if you have no other protection and also it is free.
I was part of the trials team and thought it was good and easy to get to grips with. |
Re: ntl Netguard
Nice looking prog, if you haven't anything else and for free  couldn't help but have a quiet laugh at this though

Not that I've had any probs with NTL,:nono: only niggles :tu: |
Re: ntl Netguard
I had to disable Microsoft AntiSpyware before Netguard would install correctly. When installed Netguard found a virus called IFrameBoF@expl that AVG didn't detect. Full marks so far!

Re: ntl Netguard
Good that it's free. Bad they haven't told me about it.
Good that they will be bringing out a version with anti-spyware and firewall (coming soon?!?!?!), bad becuase of this.... Quote:
Disabling firewalls is something you should only be doing if you're behind a router or have your connection to the internet unplugged. IInterested to hear how people are getting on with it....to be honest I have an extreme (and perhaps irrational) phobia of letting ntl loose with software on my PCs. |
Re: ntl Netguard
I'm just glad to see NTL finally listening to comments made years ago. How many problems, virus and trojan infestations have been caused by inexperienced people that went out, bought a PC and decided to join the broadband revolution?
I have always stated that NTL needed to look towards provding dome form of free firewall and anti-virus package on the installation CD to try and stem the flow of infestations on the network. Thankfully now NTL are being PROactive rather than REactive, yes it will still be up to the end user if they install it or not but at least now they are being informed about the issues and hidden risks that they face when they go onto broadband. Maybe NTL should send out a weekly email reminding their users to keep their anti-virus definitions up to date too or even just a big flashing logo on the NTLworld frontpage as a weekly reminder, at the very least it will get them into a habit of updating it regularly:( Well done NTL, I might even install the software so that I can be in a position to offer assistance with it. |
Re: ntl Netguard
Looks good. Its good that NTL are giving something back to their customors and this is a step in the right direction.

However they did put something in their FAQ's saying that a firewall will be later this year, but it is likely that there will be a charge for this - which is a shame. |
Re: ntl Netguard
As I understand it the firewall will be optional, which to me does suggest an extra charge. From the FAQs:

Re: ntl Netguard
:td: Despite my earlier optimism I've totally failed to install netguard on my laptop which is wireless networked to my main PC. It installed OK but there was no way that the laptop would then see the network. It seemed to make any wireless networks invisible. It's as if netguard is only programmed to work on the main PC. I'm probably doing something wrong but I don't know what!

Re: ntl Netguard
I installed it on my laptop no problem, it was hooked to the router via cable but didn't complain once.
What IP address was your laptop running on for the install? |

Re: ntl Netguard
Looks more like the IP of the modem to me.... If it is it might be a good idea to edit at least the last set of digits out..... I could be wrong though, it happens some times, apparently.....
