Do you get the same fluctuations if you directly download from a proper/ legitimate site? If not then this probably has little to do with NTL lol

It depends on who you are connecting too and what their upload speed is - so if you hit somebody with a great connection (usually the swedes) then you will get a great download speed because they have a high upload speed.

Get somebody from the UK though and because most people only have 256k upload you will probably only get 14k as thats what it'll do at its maximum. Add to that most DC++ users allow 3 connections and then you could end up with only getting around 4 or 5k.

Aim for the swedes my friend.

thanks for the replies .
the thing is, it is not just one connection that goes down or up all the people i am connected to at that time go the same way???

Ok, lets get some basics,
What level of service are you on
SACM or STB
Ethernet or USB
Software tools in the way (AV, spyware, firewalls etc)

Re: p2p speed like a yo yo!!!

If you are uploading to somebody else and you hit your upload limit this will also affect your download rate as well due to the way the TCP protocol works over the internet. Bascially what happens is that every so often you acknoledge that you are recieving data from somebody and as part of that your computer sends acknowledgement (ack) packets to the person your D/L from.

IF your upload speed is maxed out these packets dont get through in time and the A party backs off sending until you are able to send your ackowledgements through.

It is this that causes your download speed to drop accross all connections.

I recommend that you get a program like netlimiter to fix your upload speed and specifying withing netlimiter that DC++ gets 7 or 8k below your maximum upload speed, this should sort your problem.

How did you disable your firewall?

Re: p2p speed like a yo yo!!!

Since this appears to be a problem with your pc rather than ntl, moved to correct forum.

Does this ONLY happen on DC++?

Thats the question. If its only there then its not your connection.
