Anyone know of a messenger compatible with msn messenger?
 

Hi i have recently been having problems with msn messenger as it keeps freezing on the signing in screen. i have checked my system for spyware and viruses and even done a fomat and reinstall but to no avail. every other program and game works fine. so does anyone know of a compatible messenger for msn? i have downloaded beenut but at the moment it doesnt support webcams. can anyone help?

I use Miranda which is a good replacement for MSN (it is a multi chat client, so you can use ICQ, yahoo and AIM in the same program) but there doesn't seem to be a plugin for web cam support though.

There are others, but these are the two that I have used myself.

I don't use a webcam so I can't say if that will work or not.

Windows Messenger 5.1 for 2000/XP is one I have used all the time, since I don't like MSN Messenger. It doesn't support Webcams though, but it supports talking via mic, sending/receiving files etc. It also has no adverts and doesn't use many system resources.

Maybe it is jsut that particular version which is incompatible with your computer, try a few older versions.:

I don't think MSN allow you to any more. It usually says a new version is out, and if you don't update it it won't sign in.

The free version of Trillian does NOT support webcams and voice chat, however the paid for (Pro) version does.

I dont even have the other instant messengers installed any more. Trillian is good enough for my needs and is usually quick with patches when required. Their forum doesnt seem to be as active as ours, but you can usually find help for most Trill related problems there.
