FTP Errors
Hi
I used to use FTP to upload files to my various web sites (not hosted with Telewest for technical reasons) without problems. Since sometime March/April this year, I have been getting lots of errors. Timeout errors report by Internet Explorer are frequent. As I am uploading more and more files, this is getting very frustrating an I have to do something about it. But where do I start? I'm not suggesting it is Telewest, bit this seems like a good forum to ask! Of course, if anybody else is gettign the same issues, I woudl liek to know. Thanks David |
Re: FTP Errors
What you should do is ditch IE and download a real FTP program. There are some free (like Filezilla) and some trial versions. Try looking on an app site like www.download.com
With a real program, hopefully you should at least get a better description of the error, allowing us to try and sort it. |
Re: FTP Errors
BTW Welcome to the site...
Some questions:- What size files are uploading? what's your connection speed? Are they binary files? Where are you uploading too? Is everything else running OK |
Re: FTP Errors
Try using Core FTP LE it's free for personal use etc and is very easy to use and stable in operation, I've found.

Re: FTP Errors
Hi and thanks to everyone who has responded. Because of thwe work I do, I use a very good specialist program called "Unleash It" to upload files to the web. This uses FTP. Since I have been having problems with unreliable operation, I tried Windows Explorer and also get similar problems.
Although I could try some well known FTP programs which might or might not get around the problem, I really need to fix the problem so that I can get back to using Unleash It. The files I am uploading vary from lots of small (1 to 4 Kbyte files) so some large ones - up to 8MB. I haven't noticed any particular relationship between the frequency of errors and the size of files. It is ismply the longer I spend copying information, the more likely I am to get a problem. I am finding the situation erratic. Some days it is very bad, others not so bad. Yesterday, it was fine in the afternoon, but bad in the evenings... Any insights appreciated. David Thanks |
