Stupid graphics card!

I'm currently running a radeon 9200SE with the latest catalyst driver, yet I keep getting VPU recovery every 40secs or so...It's damned annoying...

While writing this, I've had 2 of them...

I also checked my monitor drivers - All up to date...

:mad::mad: :(:(

Hmm .... Power up my machine ... find the ATI catalyst drivers on *that* drive and reinstall

Think you can turn VPU recovery off?

Try the latest omegas, I know they're not many peoples favourite as they sacrafice quality for speed... but they've been very stable for me :)

Can you two not pick up the phone and just talk to each other? :p:

Sure. Thank god you have *that* drive.

But, the thing is, it didn't happen until you took my computer away from me and all the wires & stuff...

Sometimes the latest drivers aren't as stable as older/ more tested drivers ;)

Installed those drivers...still happened.

Shut computer down, checked I had put the monitor cable in the correct port - I didn't know if it was right so I plugged it into a white one it fit into and looked like somewhat of an extension cord - Everything's working alright so far - apart from the monitor is a little blurry...

- Just had another VPU recover.

I tried them on my Laptop and on my work destop. On the work desktop, they are brilliant. On the laptop, they made no difference to speed or quality, but the video chipset ran so hot it was uncomfortable to touch the case.

Why use the phone when they can just walk into the same room?

Is the card's temp OK?

Iono how to check the temperature...

It's not like my computer has been on all night, either...

I had this with a 9200SE on my old computer, my advice is to check the pins on your monitor, also disable ATI's vpu recover immediatly load of crap with that card I used to get it far too often.

Perhaps use this as a change to upgrade a bottom end card of today will trash a 9200SE.

it was just a thought... I don't use ATIs but my two main culprits would be the drivers or the card itself.

If it has a fan check it for dust/rotation etc, also try a remove/reseat see if the connection's gone a bit crappy.

And you can probably find a utility to check the temp somehow. Don't think speedfan does it though.

[/leaves his ageing athlon XP 2000+ with passively cooled FX5200 :( on practically 24-7 though]

If I remember right the 9200se is passivly cooled, just a mini heatsink on it.

With mine I fitted a system fan exhaust and blower from Maplins.
