got a question

right i bought a Gigabyte GA-7ZXR rev:1.0 this is brand new never before been used i also got an AMD Athlon 1700 1.4GHZ an ATI Radeon 9250 125Mb and 384Mb SDRAM PC133 now i put it all toghther and nothing seems to work it powers up but nothing happens it doesn't go to P.O.S.T or anything

http://tw.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/...ev%201.x).htm#

here is the link to the exact product the only thing i can see what would stop it from working is the ram being 3.3v only no this i do not know if i have or not how do you find out the voltage of your ram.

or inless any of you know or think you know what my problem would be please reply i need help thanks

also i know the gfx works as i use that as we speak same with the ram so would one of the other two be faulty??

I think the notches are in a slightly different place so it would be impossible to install the dimms. :tu:

Re: got a question

how have you mounted the motherboard, stand offs or screws - if it is screws, then, imo, you should have insulating washers fitted underneath :)

Re: got a question

yeah it all fits perfect i got a bag of screws and mountin pins and all that and used them all cos i though that might be the problem my self but it still doesnt seem to work

Re: got a question

Try using only one stick of RAM.
If the system fans start spinning when you start up but no video display then RAM is the culprit.

Check your case to mobo connections and then check your psu.

If you look at page 14 of the online manual followed from the link you will see a dip switch,I believe that if the default fsb this selects does not match your cpu then this can result in a failiure to post.try switching this over and see what happens

I don't think the RAM is the problem, on most motherboards when the fault lies with the ram or the vga then it will usually give off the beep codes, from what I have read it isn't doing this, unless we aren't being told the whole truth :)

My suggestion is to disconnect everything apart from the power and then put one bit in power on and see what happens. This is the order in which I suggest you do things:

1. Nothing apart from power to fans.
2. Insert CPU & fan and power on.
3. Insert RAM.
4. Insert VGA.
5. Start connecting drives.

Hopefully at some stage something might start working or you start hearing the error beeps. If sweet FA happens then it points towards being the motherboard or the CPU. If it looks like it's the motherboard try checking the bios battery as I know they can cause similar problems.

Also, if you can, try checking the CPU, RAM, VGA on another machine.

No it won't, if the RAM is giving problems it won't even beep.
I've had this problem on 2 desktop PCs and 1 server before - it's confusing until you try and boot with 1 stick.

From what I've read the dipswitch determines the speed of the CPU and the motherboard supports a max of 1.4 which he has so regardless of what it is set to it should still post but might be running at a slower speed.

Hopefully, I have placed some doubt in your mind to start you worrying about the safety of your 50p :D

If I win, I want my 50p in small unmarked denominations :D

Re: got a question

i tried the one stick but still no luck i know the ram work's i'm using it on this comp i'm on just now

as for the fsb thing i'm kinda of a noob when it comes to all that what speed should it be set to i have tried a couple i tried 100(default) and 133 both never worked.

i noticed when looking at the produuct spec it has *'s beside the numbers other than the defaunt fsb and in brackets it's got support by overclocking would i may be need to overclock?? if so how can i do it if it not even going to post screen ??

my psu also work's it is a 550w and i am using it just now

i'll have to wait till tomorrow then i'm gonna test my cpu if it work's then i will know it is the motherboard that is faulty or what i said above if it can be done

keep me posted if you come up with any other support you can give thanks
