Keyboard broken?

Hey, I thought my keyboard was dirty, so I cleaned it, I thought it had a membrane to stop it from getting wet internally, so I wasn't concerned about using a lot of water.

Turns out it got wet internally, I've been looking at the washed phone thing, does this apply to the keyboard aswell??, I have taken it apart and have the underside bit on top of the range, I have already had the hairdryer on it.

When I plug it in the lights flash then go off, and none of the buttons seem to work, but the computer makes a bleeping sound.

Oops ..... Leave it to completely dry out ... couple of days in the airing cupboard.

In future, take it apart, and wash everything but the circuit board.

Once a year I usually take my keyboard apart & wash the entire thing.

the key caps, rubber bits etc all go in the washing bowl to be claned, the casing too.

The flexy membrane usually just get's a wipe however it can often be washed clean if it's got a nasty spill on it.

It's the PCB that you have to keep really dry.

It all usually ends up wrapped in cloth on top of a radiaor for a few hours before reassembly.
Has worked for years.

Ah yeah it does look like it may need replacing then.
Try a final clean with water and leave to dry thoughly.

In the meantime, If you require a keyboard, there is an onscreen keyboard included in Windows XP somewhere off the accesories menu if I recall correctly.
