Video SCART Problems
 

I've got a problem I haven't seen discussed here before.
Basically, Ignoring the Aerial connection (this happens with no aerial as well as with one), I have the SCART from the STB to the TV and another SCART from the STB to the VCR. All good so far...

I can watch the digi TV fine. Now when I play a video, the TV switches to the SCART channel, (if it wasn't already on it) but I Get no picture, but only sound from the video. I know this sounds like a loose SCART connection, but having spent an hour making sure everything was tightly in the sockets, no bent pins etc I'm sure everything's connected.

If I put the scart directly from the VCR to the TV I can view everything fine (but then I can't connect my DVD to my TV because the TC only has 2 SCART sockets.

Anyone know of any reason or solution for this?

My recommendation is for you to spend a little money and get a two into one scart adaptor, available at most decent high street stores. Some more sophisticated versions have auto switching between input a & B, others are manually switched. However autoswitching relies on the Pin 8 of the scart lead being activated by the VCR or DVD.

On the assumption that your TV has two scart sockets, wiring would be:

STB Scart #1 > TV Scart #1
STB Scart #2 > VCR Scart input

VCR Scart output > Scart 2into1 Adaptor In#1
DVD scart > Scart 2into1 Adaptor in#2

Scart 2into1 Adaptor out > TV Scart #2

zoombini: Both my TV and VCR have 2 SCART sockets. But I may just take up MGP's suggestion for an easy life.

Rereading your first post I there was no direct connection between the VCR and TV in your setup. The STB was supposed to be the connection I believe.

With the STB on, it will be transmitting it's video signals down the SCART leads.

If the STB is off (standby) there will be no power to the Scart sockets on the STB, at least not to most of the video pins, but it does seem the audio pins might still be live. Thus there will be no transmission of the VCR's signal via the STB to the TV.

Furthermore I suspect there is no direct connection between the video pins in the STB.

Ignoring the FM bits, this is the correct wiring for a VCR / STB / TV setup:

I suspect that the STB is configured to output a RGB signal and the TV is configured to listen to RGB only. And the problem is that the TV doesn't automatically switch over to composite video when the VCR is set to play.
