Caller waiting

I use to be a cable and wireless customer untill NTL took it over, now when I was with C&W I had caller waiting and if I was on the phone I would hear the beep and the person calling got a message telling then that the person they were calling knew that they were waiting or some thing like that....When NTL took over that message stopped so if I am on the phone now and some one else rings all the other person gets is the ringing tone constantly.

When I asked some one about this at NTL I was told that it was because I used to be a C&W customer and as such I couldn't have a message any more

Could some please explain it to me lol

Ah, I thought you meant call waiting had been removed. Reading your post again, I realise you meant only the message the caller hears has been removed.

I guess the C&W and NTL systems are different and do not work exactly the same way. On the possitive side if the phone just rings for the caller they will not be charged a connection charge if they decide to put the phone down before you answer, where as they would have been under the C&W system!

Yes I guess so but people tend to wonder why my answer machine hasn't clicked on so put the phone down and dial again because they think they have got the wrong number lol
