Increase Web Space on NTL Home?

Does anyone know
a) if its possible to buy extra web space on ntl home?, and
b) how much it costs?, and
c) how to arrange it?

Needless to say this information is not forthcoming on NTL Home as far as I can see.

Thanks

Shandy

AFAIK you can't. What you would have to do is pay for a website hosting account with someone and store the files on that server as well as your NTL website.

Hi Shandyw,

AFAIK (As Far As I Know), Punky is right. You can't increase the size of your webspace with NTL.

Your best bet is probably to go with one of the many web hosts that are available, the other advantage to this of course is that you get to choose a domain name as well.

I personally use I-web solutions, they do a special discount for CF members, however there are many threads here in the forum recommending a number of different companies/packages.

The search facility (on the dark blue bar towards the top of the page) will help you locate those threads.

Good luck, if you have any more questions just post back :tu:

Edited to add link [Nem]

Hey guys, where are your manners? Nobody has said

:welcome: to Cable Forum :D

The ntl web space is quite basic, doesn't support php, databases, and all sorts of modern stuff. It hasn't moved on in the eight years I've been with cable. It's OK for sotring a few photos, and perhaps linking to them from a main site. If your serious about using a web site then go to a proper dedicated hosting operation.

the link to I-Web that Nem edited into Raistlins post is to their main page

the link to the special offer for CF members is

http://i-websolutions.co.uk/cfhosting.php

- you will have to register a domain name, of course :)

Thanks guys, this is useful and I'm sure has saved me a lot of time trying to get an answer out of NTL.

You could have just called them :)

In all fairness the ntl freespace isn't particularly sophisticated, it's just a 55mb quota in a server farm. It's fast, but don't expect to host anything complex on there. Most people use it to dump pictures or basic websites on.

I did call them a couple of weeks ago to ask the ftp address for uploading. After over an hour, waiting for a reply, then being directed to another number, then being told "the system was down so no answer could be given, please phone back later" - I still had no joy. That's why I couldn't be bothered to try again.

Shandy

it is upload.ntlworld.com

- username & password is usually the original you were assigned on startup - don't use any changed email password ;)

user name should be minus the domain info, also afaik ;)
