Webmail attachments using Firefox problem

Can't find anything using Google on this...

I find I cannot see email attachments when viewing my NTL webmail using Firefox. Internet Explorer has no such problem. I contacted NTL support and surprise, surprise they say they don't support Firefox so won't answer any questions about it.

Anyone know if it is possible to get Firefox to show attachments or is it something like NTL webmail requiring ActiveX or something that Firefox does not support?

TIA.

Not had a problem accessing NTLworld email on Firefox here, what attachments are you trying to access? Are they a certain file type?
Also do you have a pop up blocker installed that might be interfering with it?

Re: Webmail attachments using Firefox problem

I only have the firefox popup blocker enabled. I have just tried it with it off and it made no difference. All types of attachments are blocked. They all show if I use IE though.

If it works for you it must be me but I can't think what the problem is.

Do you have any other extensions installed? Also do you have a firewall or anti-virus programme installed?

Re: Webmail attachments using Firefox problem

Yes to both. The firewall bit can't be the culprit otherwise IE would have the same problem surely. The extensions are :
FireFTP
Download Manager Tweak
Tab Browser Preferences
Mozilla calendar

I'll get rid of them one by one to see if anything changes.

No joy  All extensions removed, default theme, all options turned off/on for the most liberal settings. java etc enabled

Just to clarify. What I don't see is the hyperlink saying "Download attachment ..." for each attachment. In IE I do. I'm stumped and probably missing something obvious :dunce:

Hi,
I have the same problem using firefox but all works ok with IE so I guess it is something to do with Ntl webmail only supporting IE?

Ah so you don't see the actual download attachment link? That is a strange situation. Have you checked your FF options to see if you might have something disabled that should be enabled or something that just isn't ticked at all?

Re: Webmail attachments using Firefox problem

Like I said, I've turned positive things like Java etc on and blocking things like popups off. All to no avail. I've tried combinations of the above too. Still no joy.

Paul, you say yours works. What vesion of Firefox are you using and what settings do you have? If you don't mind me asking.

Latest version of FF, nothing unusual in the settings (don't think I have touched the default settings at all) and more extensions than you have lol.
Wonder if something needs re-installing for your firefox to work properly? Have you tried re-installing Java etc just in case?

Re: Webmail attachments using Firefox problem

I suppose it could be the Java that I am using. Does anyone know if the attachments stuff requires java? I'll uninstall both an re-install them (if that doesn't work I'll do a defrag :D I hear that's a good way to waste some time too)

Erm NTL uses a webmail client which (at a guess) is how the poster is trying to access his email ;)

Re: Webmail attachments using Firefox problem

I know about thunderbird. However, away from home I want to read the mail without downloading it necessarily on the host machine. That's why I use NTL's webmail.

BTW. I have now uninstalled everything and re installed it. No change!

Make sure you have cleared your temporary internet files out too, it could be that the page isn't loading properly and you have a damaged page in your temp files.

Re: Webmail attachments using Firefox problem

thunderbird isn't much use for webmail.

I don't have access to the webmail system, but open up the javascript console and see if any errors are present, at a guess they are using non-standard html or javascript to show the download link
