Updates to ntl webspace 'delayed'

This issue has been going on for a long time and I would love to know if it is a known problem or something which I am doing wrong.

When I upload new versions of pages to my webspace at ntl (broadband & SmartFTP), I often (usually) do not seem to be able to view the updated pages from my PC. I check the date/time updated on the server and it is correct. However, other people to seem able to view the new pages.

I have tried various browsers (inc IE and Firefox) and played with the 'check for new pages' settings on each but nothing makes any difference.

Any help really appreciated as this is getting increasingly annoying !

Thanks,
Dave

Clear your temporary internet files too ;) Sometimes NTL webspace based sites are a little slow to update but normally clearing the temp files, (Make sure you aren't still browsing the page in question at the time) and then CTRL+F5 will force an update. Sometimes you just have to wait a little while though.

Just to clear any confusion up: Whenever you upload files to any ntl servers, they go "live" immediately; there is no delay.

The impression of any delay is usually caused by out-of-date caches (either your own or any webcache you might be using).

I am going to use Filezilla in my attempt to build a site, will that work ok?

FileZilla will work fine for what it is intended to do.

In other words, FileZilla will allow you to upload the new elements of your site from your PC to your webspace :tu:

NTL Server upload delay?

I've had a dabble at creating a basic website with some success but noticed there's quite a delay from uploading files to NTL to the pages being available on the website. Do NTL have a policy for when the pages go live? ie is there good and bad times of the day to upload files?

FTP Advice

To the lady who pointed me to FileZilla, a big thank you, it works great and easy to use. Sorry but I lost your reply so thank you very much.;)

I have the same problem. No amount of deleting cache files makes any difference. I notice that the timestamp on the NTL server is over one hour older than the files I've allegedly copied to it? It's driving me mad, it took 6 hours a few days ago to update to my new pages. So if someone says press F5 they're having a laugh.

How about pressing Ctrl + F5?
