Other computer will not connect!

Not sure whether this should be here or not!

I have just moved house!

I originally had 2 computers connected to a router and they shared my NTL connection....evrrything was fine!

I cannot use my router as I have lost the power supply...I can get one in a few days!

I thought it would be just a case of taking the ethernet cable out the back of my main computer and plugging it in to the ethernet port of my other computer but it does not seem to be working.

I was going to try and run the setup thingy but seem to have mislaid the cd and welcome letter!

Any ideas?

Standalone Cable Modem or Set Top Box?

SACM
Plug Ethernet Cable into new PC and reboot the modem

STB
Turn everything off
Connect the STB to the PC via Ethernet
Boot up the STB and wait for Lights to steady
Boot up PC
Perform Provisioning on new PC

These should work afaik someone will be along to correct me if im wrong in something

You can't do that with a regular cable. You can do that with a "crossover" cable, though.

Although to share your Internet connection like that, you'd have to start using the USB as well.

You cannot use the USB and the ethernet at the same time though.

Zeph has summed up what you need to do, other options are
1. get the new power supply for the router
2. get a second IP address from NTL (XBox service) - this costs money though.
