Rubbish printout quality from Canon i560

I've not printed in about a week or so, and when I tried to print some stuff yesterday, the quality of the black was really bad. The black output is usually very sharp on the best quality settings - but it has decreased sharply (no pun intended).

Example

I have tried using normal and deep cleaning modes on the printer's panel but the quality still remained fairly dire. I changed the black ink cartridge with a fresh one today and tried printing but still got the same results.

Any ideas? :(

Sometimes you have to use the printer cleaning tool 2-3 times before it makes any difference. How many times have you tried cleaning the print heads?

Around 5 I think for the black only. The colour printout is fine, so there's need to clean the colour heads.
