I need to connect to SQL Server via my cable connection
Hi all, __________________I've recently had my STB upgraded from the pace to samsung & as soon as this was done, ntl decided to block me using ms sql server (tcp1433 & udp1434). Now i've had the tcp port changed but I still cannot connect as I also need to use udp 1434 for the data transfer for setting up the intial talkback between the server and me so i'm stumped :( My mate has a cable modem (not sure which one) which allows me to connect fine from his house to the db, my question is can I *add* a cable modem to my setup and would this get around the block? If so how do I get it setup and is there anyone that will do it? Location is Stockport ;) Cheers Si btw Ntl tell me tough titty & insist I pay for business access along with the £90 to come and install a cable modem - they are not interested in meeting even 1/2 way so it's either sort it on my own or move over to BT :( |

AFAIK you can swap from STB to Cable Modem - but they may charge an installation fee. I see no reason for you to pay for business access. Where in the country are you.

NTL do block ports 1433 and 1434, is there any way that you can specify alternative ports within your software.
Also, you say you can *add* a cable modem to the setup. Unless this CM was obtained from (and registered with) NTL it a) wouldn't work on the network and b) it would be against the terms and conditions you signed up to c) may be illegal depending on where you got it from. On top of all of that, you would find that adding a Cable Modem to your setup wouldn't solve your problem. That port is blocked by NTL regardless of what type of modem you use, unless you are on a business account of course ;) __________________ Hmmm..... I just read the above post again..... Are you having to specify an IP/MAC address anywhere in the setup (either server end or client end) that facilitates your connection to the SQLServer? If so have you checked that it still matches your current IP/MAC address as these will certainly have changed when your box was changed. |
Re: I need to connect to SQL Server via my cable connection
Nope no mac/ip used - it's purely down to crappy ntl deciding to block things without giving their customers the option to opt out.
Looks like bt adsl is my only other choice :( Si |
