DVD Authoring Software Suggestions

I'm converting video material off tape onto digital, and once I have the files on the hard drive I'm looking to create DVDs from them.

I'd love to be able to have a proper menu system and possibly scene selection too.

So does anyone have any suggestions for software that can do this?

Since I'm not looking to 'publish' the DVDs, pricey commercial software is not a viable option, so it's low budget options I'm after.

dvdauthor is ok and free.
i tend to use TMPGEnc, which isnt free but does a reasonable amount of things.

most authoring programs have a downloadable trial package, try a few and see what they do

With NeroVision Express it is very easy to create menus and scene selection (chapters).

That came supplied with the DVD drive.

I'm already not very impressed, as it just spat out the first DVD I tried to do with some error. The log file made interesting reading NOT.

It was easy enough to use, but if it's not going to do the main thing of actually burning the DVD it's not much use!

I don't use it to burn, I get it to create the DVD in a folder and burn the DVD with normal Nero or Roxio.

Might be worth a try.....

Oh yeah and update it with the link I posted if it isn't already the latest...

I have Win DVD Deluxe and it came with my Asus motherboard.
Very easy to use and lets you set up menus and scenes easily.

I use DVD-Lab from http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/ - nice and flexible but it takes a fair bit of getting used to; not for beginners but nice as you can do things other programs can't.

Sony Media Software's Vegas Movie Studio+DVD (http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.co...egasfamily.asp ) is supposed to be excellent.

OK - finally managed to get it to do it. Updated the software as was suggested, and also slowed down the write speed some - think it might have been the media not keeping up.

Anyway, the Nero suite does quite a neat job - I've got menus etc. and it does scene selection too.

I'll check out some of the suggestions too - at least I can start comparing now.
