Windows XP 64bit - Terayon USB modem not working
Hi everyone,
I thought I'd introduce myself before describing my problem. I am currently helping a friend set up his new AMD64 system with Windows XP 64bit Edition... Give me Linux any day :) Actually, Kubuntu LiveCD is what I am using now with the same computer so no problem there... My problem is thus: I tried the v1.3 intallation disc that came from ntlWorld, and the driver installation failed as the install program crashed. Now I've got a good guess that the Terayon TJ210 uses 16-bit drivers for windows which simply wont go on - since Windows XP64 doesn't support 16-bit any more... I've tried NTL customer support and they weren't able to help me - so I am hoping that somebody can help me shed any light on this matter. Thanks, Mireno |

Hi :welcome: to Cable Forum
you could check the FAQ http://www.terayon.com/tools/static_...00&cat_id=8.12 or personally I would forget about using USB & connect using an ethernet card :) |

As it seems the ntl CD & the USB drivers don't work with XP64, I'd go with what Gaz said & use ethernet instead :) Much easier anyway, & doesn't need the CD. As your friend is using a Terayon, I assume the connection has actually already previously been set-up & registered (before he got his new 64bit system), as the Terayons aren't supplied any more. In which case, no need for the CD at all if you use ethernet. Just a matter of doing a quick power cycle & swapping over: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...b.html#usbswap |

I'd be astounded to see a motherboard that supports the AMD64 but doesn't have at least built in fast ethernet if not gigabit ethernet onboard.

Not that I was looking for one without Ethernet, switching to onboard ethernet freed up a much needed PCI slot. |

Using ethernet is so simple - just turn the computer and modem off, plug the modem into the ethernet port and turn both back on. |
