Modem ID
Hi
i'm trying to id a modem for install. Window98 is picking it up but doesn't have the driver. I've tried Diagnose but that doesn't see it either. How can i id the modem. If i install it with a standard v90 modem will diagnose then pick up the brand name and type then ? |
Re: Modem ID
No. If the driver works, then Windows will be able to use the modem, but it will identify it as a standard v90 modem.

Re: Modem ID
Have you tried looking for a product code on the modem. Looking for any codes on the modem and then try entering them into Google. Take a look at the search results and it should give you an indication of the make/model etc. Then try going to the manuafacturers website to download the drivers. Don't bother going to website slike Mr Driver etc because they will only try to take your hard earned for something that should already be free.
P.S the above will obviously only work if you have access to another PC that is already on the net! ;) |
Re: Modem ID
the largest chip on the modem will have a name and number, find these then goto www.driverguide.com you should find your driver there, your looking for something like ambient, conexant, agere amongst others

Re: Modem ID
rs56 will def be easy to find as this is a common modem, log in is drivers password all
Try the driver third from the top on the rockwell page on driverguide(would link but as you need to log in prob easier for you to look) |

Re: Modem ID
No other reason than it caught my eye first with a quick glance :D

Re: Modem ID
If the device shows up in Device Manager, the properties page should have a 'details' tab. In this you can get the 'Hardware ID' string.
Googling on the Hardware ID string usually points to the correct drivers. HTH |
