Shared pc cant access certain sites
 

This is probably just a setting somewhere but I cant put my finger on it.
There are 2 pc`s on the network, the main 1, which I`m on now can access everything. The 1 upstairs can get to most sites but not all, the ones it cant get to are Halifax bank, windows update, nortons main site and a few others.
Both are running xp, sp2 installed, network wizard has been run.
I`ve tried turning off the firewall on the main 1 and the 1 upstairs both at the same time but no joy. anyone got any ideas please.

Some sites may need to be able to download Active-X controls. If you are using Internet Explorer you may see a small highlight bar appear accross the top of IE window saying it can't download.

You may need to check the security settings in the IE whether or not such controls can be downloaded and installed.

The other area of concern might be the user rights or permissions for the PC. If you can access the site when the user has Administrator rights, but not for any other user, you will need to upgrade that user's permissions.

Are both PC's connected to a router, or is PC2 sharing the connection with PC1 via ICS (internet connection sharing)?

In what way can't you get to these sites?

Have you virus/spyware scanned the second PC (some viruses block access to windows update, AV sites, etc)?

Sorry I didnt reply earlier, been fiddling with this all day.
Right, Pc2 connected via ics.
PC2 has a clean install of xp today so its highly unlikely any virus or spyware but I`ll check anyway.
What I mean by cant get to sites is: eg if i go to www.ntl.com the page loads fine, if I go to www.ntlworld.com it starts to load but only goes half way then hangs. The bbc site loads ok but not microsoft. com or .co.uk
Pc1 loads all these sites instantly so I know its not a matter of the sites being slow.

It could be another transparent cache problem.

Have a look at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...trancache.html and see if the two systems are using different proxies. If so, manually configure PC2 to use the same as PC1.
