hiya thanks to all you guys who helped,
after i posted the message some one gave me "regmechanic" to put on my pc. it found 211 registry errors, and cleared them all, which is great because my pc dosent crash anymore!
BUT, everytime i start my pc, it completely freezes on the windows 2000 screen, when the blue loading bar goes halfway along, i have to turn it off by the wall, and then it loads in perfectly!!!!!! it does this everytime :Yikes:

If you have the Windows 2000 disc at hand, pop it in the drive and boot up your PC, making sure you press any key to boot from the CD when prompted. Press F8 when the license agreement pops up and then press R to perform a repair on Windows. Using this method will not delete your files and you won't have to re-install any programs.

Have you tried running a check disc?

Double click on My Computer - Right click your C: drive and select properties - Click the tools tab and under error checking, click check now. You might have to reboot in order for Windows to perform the scan.

ok, i have just done the scan thing, i had to restart the pc and it did it then. i checked the boxes to say to repair anything if found, but when the scan thing had finished, it restarted itself and said the scan was completed. but it didnt say if it had found anything wrong or not. what does this mean, that all was ok? or if it finds something does it let you know? :dunce:

Could do a search of your hard drive for any files called *.log and it might be listed there.
Do you have a product key for windows 2000 at all on the computer? If you do you can install the operating system again by borrowing a copy of the Windows 2000 from a mate that has it. Just remember to use your own product key when you re-install it.
One other thing, have you tried booting into safe mode and if so does the computer still freeze on the first attempt to boot up??

Also, check for any error messages in the event log. (Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer).
