An odd one
I have had a similar problem before but this time I seem to be having great difficulty getting my point accross to the support chap - who doesn't speaky gud englishy.
Basically I live in the TS17 area and own a web design company. My business partner lives a couple of roads away from me. I was usung XP and suddenly my email stopped working (mail.clearchaos.net) and in fact even pinging it didn't work. I can access the web site (www.clearchaos.net) but if I try to get to the admin area which you access by specifying a port number after the address i.e. http://www.clearchaos.net:2082 it fails with the usual page cannot be found error. I tried disabling the firewall, disabling and uninstalling norton and still no luck. All the while my business partner is working away as happily as ever. So that lead me to believe my machine had the problem so I rebooted into Linux which was working fine last time I used it and tried from there...same problem!!! So I plugged the modem into another machine in my office - same problem!!! I've now gone full circle and think the modem or NTL have to be the problem but because the only example of a site that isn't working for me is one I own they blame the site even though I tell them my business partner can access it OK. Anybody got any advice / ideas? :Yikes: |
Re: An odd one
First try a different proxy, although that shouldnt be causing problems, secondyl speak to ntl see if the will check the dns entry for your site, although i doubt its that. but i do not know how NTL run there DNS servers. Can you get your host to flush the dns for you to cause it to reporpogate globally?
if your having support problems you may consider a different hosting provider.. I-Websolutions host Cable Forum and do some pretty cracking reseller deals.. |
Re: An odd one
I can get to the admin area of the site using a proxy so that's good.
BUT it doesn't solve my email problems I still can't see the mail server my business partner a few roads away can see |
Re: An odd one
Might be worth checking your webhost hasn't automatically firewalled you (just open a support ticket with your IP). I've been caught out a couple of times, by checking email too quickly connecting & disconnecting from the FTP server and their firewall thought I might be up to no good.

Any more ideas? |
Re: An odd one
Do you have a residential or a business broadband connection from ntl?

Re: An odd one
I've had a few 'weird' faults like that & the only thing i can come up with(and it may sound stupid)
is some adware/spyware can conflict with the broardband settings on the pc. I was able to ping test & ipconfig. M |
Re: An odd one
Try a tracert to the server and see how far you get. For reference, I've included a tracert from my PC below.
Code:
