windows 2000 keeps freezing
i hope someone can help, as i am completely flumoxed. my pc was running great until 10pm monday night. the screensaver was on and the pc completely froze, i couldnt use the mouse keyboard or ctrl alt +del. so i had to flip the swith and turn the thing off. when i put it back on it came on normally, and after 4 hrs whilst still on the internet playing yahoo pool the whole thing froze again so i turned it off. the next day when i turned it on it got halfway through starting up then restarted itself. it worked fine for about 6hrs then froze again and i had to turn it off. i turned off the screen saver (which was a basic one that comes with windows), defraged, done a disc cleanup, checked antivirus and adaware scan, but has not changed anything. when i turned the pc on this morning it froze halfway through loading up, so i had to flip the swith again  ! it has so far been on for 3hrs without crashing :)
i have not downloaded anything or installed anything. the only thing i have noticed that has changed, is when i bring up the task manager, there is no button to click on anymore to have a look at the processors working, im sur there was an extra tab on it that would go to a green and blackscreen with lines that go up and down monitering the use of your cpu performance :Yikes: |
Re: windows 2000 keeps freezing
I would be looking at the CPU fan to see if it is not working causing the CPU to overheat. The fact it works for a few hours after being off leads me to think an overheating problem is causing it.
Could also be the power supply. If you have your PC on the floor the dust from the carpet is sucked in more readily causing fan problems etc... |

Check your connections and make sure that none of your RAM modules have popped out of their slots.
