Final questions before I take the plunge... (graphics, CPU etc)
Tomorrow I shall be taking the plunge and getting a new system.
It will probably be: Amd Athlon 64 3500 Winchester 2x512mb Geil 3200 Cas 2.5 Gigabyte K8NF-9 nForce4 (PCI-E) Plus whatever the fastest PCI-E X800 is I can afford with change from £525 (200? seen an XT for £202 inc). Some questions please: 1. Is this a well balanced system, i.e. am I better off going going for the 3800 San Diego and cutting back slightly on Graphics? 2. Is Geil Ram ok? 3. Is that Motherboard ok? 4. What does VIVO on a gc actually give you in the real world? Is it worth spending more to get VIVO? 5. Is this good value and I safe buying from these guys? http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/product.asp...nc+power+cable Thanks a lot. Cheers. |

2. Geil ram is great, it runs a little hot but works flawlessly and is great for oc'ing. 3. If there's a fan on the Northbridge, expect it to die within 6 months, you can replace it with a passive heatsink instead, other than that GB boards are reliable but not exceptional on performance. 4. VIVO = Video in/Video Out, some X800 VIVO's will let you flash with an XT PE bios, but video in is a bit pointless when most decent digital video cameras transfer using firewire. 5. It's good value, I've never heard of the company though. |

2. Geil is what I have in my A64 rig. So far so good! Are you going for the sticks with heatspredder?
No mention of disk/dvd/burner/Case/PSU in your £550 - reusing all of this from your old system? |

I've bought from pcbuyit they're part of a larger company I bouight an X800XT 256M PCI-Express friday £172 ex VAT or £211.50 inc VAT and delivery. It arrived Monday perfect OEM card and power cable I downloaded the latest ATI drivers worked no problem with my older Chieftect 360W PSU. The card to me is identical to the Sapphire card just without the stick on the heatsink, indentical in everyway infact! ! BARGAIN!
http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/dept.asp?de...me=PCI+Express The X850XT Platinum Edition is cheap too but out of my budget! |
Re: Final questions before I take the plunge... (graphics, CPU etc)
would be interested in seeing the core speed and ram frequency on that card
