Which laptop?
OK guys some help here please.
Tomorrow I am off out to purchase a laptop, yes I must buy tomorrow, and I must have it in my posession by 14:00 hours on Monday, preferably sooner. I fancy a Sempron based lappy, with at least 512Mb ram Not arsed about gfx, its a second system and will only be used for daft old games and internet access and general second PC things. I must have a LAN connector, and not that bothered about wireless, I like wires, muchos mirth when people trip over them :D I want an entry level system, and I dont think that any websitre will be able to get one delivered by monday pm. Which leaves......GAH! Tiny, time and PC world I believe, perhaps somewhere like Comet but I aint so sure about them. What do you guys think and can you give me any pointers? |

I'd go for PC world as they probably have the biggest choice and keenest prices...............

I also agree that for choice and short notice this is probably your best bet but yYou could try comet, saw this basic model and appears to meet your spec for a reasonable price http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/320_232823.html OOPS - You would need to add another stick of ram for your 512MB requirement though!! |

dont laugh but ............ woolworths were selling a fujitsu siemens laptop for what seemed like a keen price :erm: , anyway get yourself along to tesco in billingham and they were selling an acer laptop for around £500 , as i remember its spec was decent enough :tu:

I done it.
I now own a Packard bell Easy note E6100 AMD Sempron 2600+ 256Mb ram (wanted more but settled for this) 40Gb hdd Dual layer DVD RW WIndows XP home All for the Bargeen price of £490 PC world for once I'm pleased with you. |

I wholeheartidly recommend Toshiba, Ive had one for 2 years that ive just sold to a mate to take to Uni. Its still going strong, nice, solid build and easy to upgrade the RAM and HDD. Very good support and parts are easy to get hold of if it does happen after the 1 year.

I could have had an Intel centrino processor laptop but at £200 more I didnt see the point. Had I the money to buy a high end laptop that i could use for gaming then perhaps I would have been willing to spend £900 + on one. I am an AMD fan and dislike Intel with a passion. So again I got what I wanted. Never had a bad experience with a packard bell, i dont need any form of support, the machine is insured on the household insurance and it includes breakdown. Only thing that is ever likely to change on this laptop is the ram, and thats PC2700 SODIMMs so its not like thats a major crisis either. So far in a days usage the only issue I have found is that I cannot uninstall NAV and NIS, thye dont appear in the programs list and dont appear in add remove software!!! they are only 90 day trial versions too. |
