Laserjet 1012 problem

XP pro running an attached laserjet 1012. I tied to stop a print run but it wouldn't stop quickly enough (of course) so I turned the printer off at the rear switch while I cancelled the print job.
Now I get an 'unknown usb device' error and the pc doesn't recognise the printer. This error occurs when I plug the printer into another PC as well. It seems that the printer isn't telling the PC that it is actually a printer.
I have tried re-installing drivers/ unplugging the printer from the wall socket....don't know what else to try.
Any suggestions? :(

Look in task manager and stop the print spooler (spoolsv.exe) then try again.
Or reboot your comp.

LOL - for a second i thought you had a problem with your Learjet - ah well :D

There goes my chance of a luxury flight.

As to your problem, swoop's suggestion dosent seem like it would work as it happens on mulitple PC's - is there anyway to hard reset the software on the printer? Like a key combo that resets it to factory defaults or something?

YOu could try to do a cold reset:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...ctID=c00058439
This generally resets the printers back to Factory Defaults.

Surely, simply blowing into the cable would clear it?
