Favicons

Hello all. I'm using IE6 with XP pro and have noticed that the little icons in 'my favorites' are reverting back to the ubiquitous small blue 'e' rather than staying as the little colorful icons that they start out as. Anyone know why..and how to fix it?
I remember reading something about this problem here but can't find anything about it...........

They are called favicons and to keep them you will need to find an app. to collect them.
If I remember one I will let you know.

Just found this info http://www.djdenham.com/saving_favicons.htm

It seems that both IE and Firefox suffer from this problem of the disappearing favicons. In my research I discovered that favicons are depended upon the history setting in your browser. So in Firefox, if you donââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t visit a bookmarked page with a favicon in 9 days (the default history setting) the favicon disappears.

The way I got over this small problem in IE6 was to make a folder anywhere, and add the favicon, when I got it, you will find it in your temp internet files.

cut and paste the favicon into the folder that you are using to store such files, then renamed them when there, so as to have uniques names (most still are called favicon.ico - rename ones like yahoo.ico, google.ico etc)

then on your favourites link, right click and chose properties, and change icon, browse to your folder, and pick the icon you wish.

I never lost a favicon after this, although it is a long process, but when you get the hang of it it is simple.
