Codecs
 

Anyone know where i can D/L all the codecs i need? i have got the box uploads of times in WMP saying it can't play this or that because codecs are missing, anyone help?

xvid plays all divx/xvid formats and is pretty useful...anything in particular you are missing? i'd avoid codec packs, they can mess things up...

having said that, ffdshow is a good one-fits-all codec set.

download this little program called 'avicodec'. Simply open the video file in the program and it tells you what audio and video codecs you need to run it, then gives you the appropriate web links to go get the corect ones.

Beware, by installing multiple versions of codecs to handle the same type of file format can cause problems due to conflicts. Best to only have 1 codec per format type, if you then want to use a different one then uninstall the previous one each time.

You can use a tool called G-Spot (oo-er :naughty) to determine which particular codec a film you're trying to view actually requires, and then you can download that particular one.

As bmxbandit says, I'd avoid codec packs if poss... I too have had problems in the past using one of these.

i have to agree with bmxbandit, avoid the codec packs, they tend to cause more problems than they are worth by giving you codecs you dont need which can then interfere with other codecs that you do need.

I would only download what you need on an individual basis and before long you will have everything covered anyway(there aren't that many formats to cover and most codecs will cover a few formats at a time)
