..here we go again
I've been experiencing problems with the internet - keep being disconnected from IRC, etc. And after rebooting my modem, i-net works again..
Anyone having the same problem in the Greater Manchester area? Calum |
Re: ..here we go again
Could you be a little more vague about your problem please? ;)

Re: ..here we go again
I'm not sure what it is. It just 'disconnects' without notice, doesn't give me an error or anything.
e.g (19:39:53) * [10053] Software caused connection abort (19:39:53) * Disconnected |

Re: ..here we go again
Do you use a router or are you connecting through some other sort of NAT device? This is the cause more often than not...
I had a problem with that here too, and I changed something on the router and it worked OK after that. However, I cant remember what I did and our new router doesnt cause this problem for some reason  |
Re: ..here we go again
I'm getting the same problem here in Tamworth. Random disconnects from all 4 IRC servers I am connected to, certain websites time out and messenger kicks me off often.

Re: ..here we go again
Watch your firewalls/routers guys.
If the servers you are connected to are sending PINGs to assertain if you are still connected, and those pings aren't being responded to by your routers/firewalls (or the client you are using is not being allowed to respond) then the server will assume that you have intentionally disconnected and will close your server connection. |
Re: ..here we go again
Not my router or firewall, didn't do this last week.

Re: ..here we go again
It might be something to do with the transparent proxy that you are connected to on your NTL connection.
You may need to specify a proxy server to connect through explicitly (rather than just going with the one that NTL put you on because of your geographical location). Not sure how you would do that with IRC / Messenger but there might be a way. __________________ Alternatively, are you using your connection for anything else? Are you running any programs which could be uploading and downloading at the same time quite large amounts of data / a constant stream of data at a high rate? |
