I think one of the problems here is that everyone just assumed that he'd moved, so none of the neighbours thought to check. Having said that, it's inexcusable that no-one from the council or benefits checked, bearing in mind they were all sending him letters etc. You can bet that, under normal circumstances, if he'd missed a payment of something, they would have been straight round. Having said that, there's the potential that, if The Beneifts Agency kept paying him his benefit into a bank account (although I am aware that this is a massive assumption), direct debits may have continued to have been paid.

Mind you, if it's on the Caldmore Green estate (which I think it is), almost no-one other than prostitutes and their :erm: customers go there anyway, let alone anyone from the council!

Wouldn't happen around here I'm glad to say. The neighbours here are great and everyone looks after each other.

I wonder if this guy had any family. And strange that Social Services were not alerted. Very sad indictment of modern society.

That's what I was going to say. Maybe being in the west midlands had something to do with it :jk:

And look at the street: Carless St... Shouldn't that be Careless St?

I have two really good neighbours, one directly next door and another opposite. Last year my grandfather had gone to my parents for a couple of weeks (before he moved out) and I had a phone call before 9am in work as the curtains were still closed, I forgot to open them. The neighbour opposite knew he was always up and about by then and got worried.

In contrast though, my attitude has changed, and I would be more selective about who I help. I know we have had a few sparring sessions about Liberal attitudes Andy, but I would say that I have put my life on the line on a few occassions when someone has been attacked in the street. I know the Liberal neighbours opposite would put their blinkers on and go back in the house if I or anyone else was being beaten by a gang in the street.

If I was lucky they would possibly phone the police, but most likely it wouldn't happen because they wouldn't like to admit that crime and nasty people exist.
