avi to DVD problems
I've been trying to convert an avi file I've got into something I can stick on a DVD with some other footage I've got.
The problem is that this file (and some others) come out with no sound when they are converted in any way. I've been working with Sonic MyDVD and TMPGEnc DVD Source creator and both output the file with no sound. I've tried opening the files in VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod but they both say there's a problem with the sound. NanDub opens the files and outputs the file as another Avi but when that avi is converted there's still no sound. I have the codecs needed as the original files play o.k. The sound codec is: 0x0055(MP3, ISO) MPEG-1 Layer 3 (VBR) and the video is:DX50/DIVX I'm so confused as other files with these codecs transfer fine with TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator. Any ideas? |
Re: avi to DVD problems
i've had this problem before... use 'save wav' in virtualdub then convert to pcm wav (using winamp disk writer, for instance)
|
Re: avi to DVD problems
I've tried that but the WAV file comes out all speed-ed up (sounds like they're all on helium)!!!

Re: avi to DVD problems
try a program called WinAVI
www.winavi.com works on all formats of video, very quick and very easy to use |
Re: avi to DVD problems
odd. i'm assuming the avi plays fine?
|
Re: avi to DVD problems
Yep the Avi plays just as it should but when converted with the sound in (supposedly) there's no sound and when you try and take the sound out it gives you a file that is the correct length but they all sound like they've been on helium. Can't seem to find a fix for it.

Grab http://home.cogeco.ca/~avi2vcd/rtak7...d_ver1_4_3.zip
Theres a program called decompress.exe, run it and take the output and multiplex it (could use TMPEnc and do it through that, selected that outputted wav as the audio and the avi file for video). Hopefully should come out fine. |
Re: avi to DVD problems
once the mp3 audio has a wav wrapper, i've always found tmpgenc can open it... i guess you'll just have to try different programs until one decompresses it correctly

Re: avi to DVD problems
once you demux it, audacity will reencode it to wav.
Have you tried frameserving to your mpeg encoder? |
Re: avi to DVD problems
This is happening fairly frequently, I know the problem quite well :)
Tmpgenc encodes the avi no problem but no sound. The way I do it (been doing it for a couple of months, on problem avi`s) is to first use winavi to convert to mpeg1. The mpeg1 that winavi throws out is still not stable (it always stutters throughout) and then use tmpgenc to convert winavi`s mpeg1 to another mpeg1. When you have tmpgencs mpeg 1, you can carry on normally to convert to dvd. Always works, I`ve just finished one this morning |
Re: avi to DVD problems
I use DVD Santa for avi to dvd, its no thrills but does the job.

Re: avi to DVD problems
I`ve got santa as well but on the avi`s that shaun is on about, even santa fails to put the sound on the finished dvd.

Ahhh I see. |
Re: avi to DVD problems
well what audio DOES the avi have? Have you checked? Can you then convert it to something that your apps WILL burn? You'd have been quicker dowloading the dvdr ;)

Re: avi to DVD problems
Well to update you all, I've loaded one of the files into Nandub and saved it with direct stream copy for the video but full process mode for the audio and that worked when I burnt it with SonicMyDVD, but that program will only allow me to fit two episodes onto one disk. Looks like I'm going to have to do that for the 6 episodes and then copy them onto one disk with my standalone DVD recorder. :(
