looks to me like you have bought a dsl router which has a modem built in,if there is no ethernet port labeled wan then you can't plug a cable modem in,Ive not looked at modem just gone with the name.I am taking forgranted your on cable and not freedom dsl?

assuming you ar eon nl cable modem then you need a cable router and a couple of leads and away you go :)

Re: d-link router problems

wired will be cheaper but you will have trailing cables, think of a figure to spend then look at dabs or ebuyer or aria :)

Re: d-link router problems

many thanks - I would prefer wireless - my pc is situated in the kitchen and if I'm totally out, my daugters PC is right above me - I'd say no more than 7ft above my head so I could always run up a cable but like I said I would prefer wireless, again many thanks

Re: d-link router problems

If the modem is near kitchen pc you place a wireless cable router there, switch off modem and plug the modem into wan port, cat 5 patch cable to your pc,install a wireless pci card in upstairs pc boot modem then boot router but first make sure you read the manual lol lol

This is what you want:

Means you'll need to install a card inside your daughter's computer though (not difficult to do at all really):
