Slow download speed while uploading

Hi as anyone else noticed that while uploading (in my case via ftp upload) the download speed is very low i.e. 200k on a 2meg broadband connection. Its running slower than when I was on 750k!

Re: Slow download speed while uploading

That's the way TCP works - as you start to max out your upload - your download will slow down drastically - because the ACK packets cannot get back to the remote server.

This may be due to you maxing out the upload...

when you download data, it requires an acknowledgement (ACK), if the upload channel is busy, then it may not be able to send the ack for a while, so the data will stop downloading for that period. (assuming that the speed you refer to is an average...)

<EDIT> - dang, beaten to it again ;)
