151 has gone

I tried to call NTL this morning using 151, and I got the dead tone, I managed to find a number to call them on 0800 052 2000, and they have confirmed that 151 has been taken off.

Well done NTL, that is really good customer service move.

Why do I bother staying with NTL I really don't know.

well yes they should have told everyone but at the same time the other number has been around for ages and is also free.

151 hasn't been quoted as an official number for a long time.

I still think that it is much easier to remember 151 to 0800 052 2000.

Well no-one told me it was being discontinued! Just tried it now...sure enough dead as a dodo.

One of these days I'm going to find someone who works for ntl's marketing department...and I won't be responsible for my actions.

Of course I am assuming that there IS actually someone who works in that department.

Pathetic.

I don't see the big deal?

What's wrong with just phoning 0800 052 2000?

It's not about which number to dial, it's about being TOLD which number to dial.

You can't just unplug the number that people have been using since the start of time without publicising it first.

And my next question is why? What's wrong with people dialling 151? Personally I think it's an attempt to reduce the amount of calls, which is wrong.

Re: 151 has gone

Unification.

150/151 worked in some regions, others used 1503, and other variations. And of course these didn't work from non-ntl lines.

Better to have a single number that works for everyone no matter which company's line they are calling from. That's the decision that was taken some time ago, to eventually phase out the old numbers. No bills have quoted the old numbers for a long time.

My bill says 0800 052 2000, & hasn't said 151 for ages.

I can't remember the last time I tried to use 151 to phone ntl.

1503 was much better than 0800 052 2000 as I have had to ring every day for the past three weeks trying to get as many as five disconexions a day of up to 8 hours resolved! It's bad enough having to go through the press this, press that, try this, try that and listen to music routine each time!

But it doesn't work from non-ntl lines. If your phone line breaks down, 151 is a fat lot of good when you try to ring it from a mobile or a phone box.

08000522000 is the single number, it was introduced a couple of years ago with the long term plan of replacing most other numbers. You can get almost anywhere from that number, including customer services, sales, tech support, billing, faults.

It is a vast improvement on what went before.

I was surprised to find the number had stopped working to be honest.

All my bills that I have have 151 and 08000522000 on them - including the last bill I got.

But as has been said you can just call the 0800 number.

My current bill has

Quote:

FOR CUSTOMER CARE PLEASE CALL 151 FROM AN ntl PHONE OR 0800 052 2000
I do agree that customer service MIGHT improve if it is on one massive number that gets you through to anywhere but I very much doubt improverment from past experience.

ntl need to stop advertisng the number and therefore reduce complaints. Maybe we wil all get a mailshot about it next bill period but we can live in hope.
