Broadband Installation Nightmare

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated! :)

My bf's flatmate recently moved out and cancelled the NTL, I set up a new account and today the engineer arrived (early might I add!!) to install it again for us.

We are trying to set up the broadband on the pc again, but it comes up with the error,

"AEI USB to Fast Ethernet Adaptor

Your ISP requires the use of the above network adaptor, but it is not currently functional.

Uninstall and reinstall"

I am not very technical and this really means nothing to me!!

Help!!!!

Re: Broadband Installation Nightmare

Two technical questions for the untechnical, I'm afraid:

1) Is the broadband through a TV set top box (STB) or through a separate (small silver or blue) cable modem (SACM)?
2) Are you connecting via a USB port or an Ethernet port on your PC?
