Connx Problems - advise plz
Well , i can browse the internet no problem , but it seems anything else i want to do is a problem.
I spend a bit of time gaming and rent a gameserver and some webspace at the moment and for about the last 24 hours im having problems. At the moment i cant ftp into my gameserver or my web hosting account , or any other ftp server for that matter, the connection just times out. I cant login to my webhost server admin page - page cannot be displayed. I cant connect to my Teamspeak Server - tho i know its up cos my mates are on it - but it tells me the servers down or times out. All seeing eye cant connect to to the pingers or scanners - it just hangs. My "call of duty" in game browser trys to refresh - but just sits there totally empty. So , i can browse the net no problem , but anything else on a different port is screwed. Could this be due to NTL messing with upgrades ? Maybe my Router has chucked the towel in ? Any of you guys have a clue , or can point me in the right direction please ? I have a 1.5 meg connx , terrayon sacm, "old" Netgear rt314(i think its that model) Fresh install of WinXP pro (last Night) - No Firewall or AV installed as yet , so thats ruled out. Finally - im in Leicester LE3 - anyone have similar issues ? Cheers for any help |
Re: Connx Problems - advise plz
hi and welcome to the forums :D
ok so you have discounted it being the operating system then if you have reinstalled.. can you provide any pings are traceroutes to the sites that you are trying to connect to? start > run > cmd > tracert www.whateveraddress.com ping www.whateveraddress.com i would also suggest that you try and connect the pc directly to the cable modem to see if your issues continue so then we can directly rule out it being the router as well |
Re: Connx Problems - advise plz
Thanks for replying,
I connected directly to the modem, same results. I pinged my Teamspeak Server First which gave me the reply Code:
I know for a fact these servers are all up and running, websites on the same servers i can access no problem , but anything on a different port i cant find. Thx |

You need to ping without the port number on the end- so just 217.112.88.50 I can trace and ping the address from here... |

Re: Connx Problems - advise plz
Monkeybreath and nostra , thanks for trying to help.
This evening i rang CS/tech support , cos i was gettin a bit ****ed off . I spoke to a very nice asian lady who had no clue what i was trying to explain to her anyway , so she fetched her level 2 supervisor(that took her ten mins , and he was just as clueless). But she was confident he'd fix my problems. After spending quite sometime explaining that my webbrowsing was ok , in the main anyway. But it was ftp, irc and other stuff i couldnt use, between the 2 of em they decided that Internet Explorer was fooked and i should install another browser. To be honest - even i knew Internet Explorer wasnt the cause , but anyhow , i said nice things to her , thanked her for her time, took the reference number and thought to myself, "ill call back tomorrow and hopefully get to talk to a real tech who's got a clue ". But, No Need , i put the phone down tried again and miraculously - everythin is workin - ffs i thought to myself , i like her and her level 2 supervisor..to cut a long and frustrating story short ,and of course just to confirm that even tho they dun have a clue what theyre doin - sometimes they push the right buttons and dont know it. im workin - thanks for your help |
