IPAQ problem
Hello,
Is there anyone there who is well up on IPAQ PDAs? I have an IPAQ that has developed a fault. I just returned from Canada where I stayed for 3 weeks. Two things went wrong while I was there. 1. My battery adapter failed to keep my IPAQ charged even though it is supposed to work at voltages between 100 and 240 volts. This meant that I lost all my data, and several programs that were held in RAM. 2. My IPAQ will not see my CF sleeve. This is the biggest problem, since it stops me reinstalling a backup. Whenever I plug the sleeve in I get the message: "Expansion Pack Initialisation failed. Please contact your expansion pack manufacturer". This happens with and without a CF card being present. Luckily I was able to try the sleeve in a friend's IPAQ which is identical to mine, and the sleeve works fine on that machine. So the problem must lie with the IPAQ itself. I have examined the contacts with a magnifier but I can't find anything wrong, and in any case, I always keep the sleeve attached, so it malfunctioned while in place (and supposedly on charge from Canadian mains) Here is some technical information. IPAQ model 3650 ROM Revision 2.14.03 ENG Microsoft Pocket PC Version 3.0.11171 (Build 11178) |
I've used various IPAQ's since the original model now on 2210. I am guessing that the voltage uplift whilst in theory is OK has warmed your unit a little and has possibly caused a few "dry" solder connections.
Only a guess but I would say it would cost more to repair than replace... |
What do you mean by voltage uplift? North American Mains is 110 volts I believe?

By the way, I have found the HP user forum to be poor, but their tech helpline is very good once you get through the menu system.
The pointed me at a ROM upgrade. After I did this I find that the unit works except that the on/off switch is operating in an inconsistent manner, and although I can access my CF cards, I still get the error message. They now suggest I send it in foir repair.but the cost is £200!! So I might as well soldier on. My guess is that I have a file corrupted somewhere! |
I would back the data up and perform a hard reset on the unit.....
should fix it |
A hard reset is pretty much the first thing I did!
Also, it is required as part of the ROM upgrade process. So I can report that it did no good at all. |

You don't mention how long ago you purchased your IPAQ or from where.
Assuming it's fairly new, why not contact the retailer and get a refund? Roger... |
It's 2 years old almost and out of warranty.
