The man with perhaps the most distinctive voice in radio has sadly passed away.

First John Peel, now Tommy Vance, seems like the legends are dropping one by one.

I remember listening to Tommy Vance when he was on Radio Caroline & later when he moved to the BBC.

Like Russ said, it was the voice that grabbed you first, but his knowledge of the music biz was encycopaedic & he had a lot of respect from the musicians.

Oh that wondeful voice.Makes me weak at the knees thinking about it.... :)

Sad news indeed especially as he was so young really.63 seems so young by todays standards. :(

That is sad. What a fantastic voice - so throaty but kind of kindly gruff (if that makes sense) and immediately recognisable.
