Was the LokiTorrent lawsuit a hoax?

Probably the biggest internet story to break all week is this:

Recently earthreactor.com published an article stating that the whole Loki Torrent suit was a fraud and that it was all staged to collect donations toataling in the tens of thousands then sell the domain. "It seems that the owner of LokiTorrent decided to take the donation money and run, and to cover his tracks, scare the hell out of the entire p2p community. The scare tactic was probably nothing but a decoy to convince intelligent people not to ask the right questions
Earthreactor.com has been slashdotted but you can still read the text of the article here:

Well, if he did, I wouldn't like to be in his shoes. Remember what happened to the US Secret Service guys in Hackers? It is fictionalised I know, but I dare say a few smart hackers could well do similar styled stuff to him.

I can't remember that well, but IIRC they made life uncomfortable for them. They screwed with their credit cards making them unusable, and messed with various databases on them (like they added unpaid parking tickets etc, causing legal agro).

Probably a bit far fetched in this day and age, but I am sure they can make life difficult for them.

The funniest thing is that people that got scammed are bitching about it... they don't seem to like being robbed, although they're fine with stealing others' stuff.

The words pot, kettle and black suddenly spring to mind.

A colleague at work pointed out that the site was getting close on 2 million hits per day, so then imagine if only 1% clicked on banner ads, you can see how much cash he was raking in just from that.
