Second STB price?
 

Hi there,

I currently have a Samsung digital STB and would like a second for the bedroom... the cabling up to the bedroom is in place already as we used to have a second analogue STB a few years ago....

I'm assuming without too much hassle a second STB could be added here...

Back in the days of Bell CableMedia and C&W analogue the second STB cost a reasonable £5 extra per month but this increased alot if I remember correctly when we took digital...

Does anyone now know how much extra a second digital STB would now cost?

I don't think I'll bother at that price... less than a tenner and I might have done... will give them a call though to confirm.

It is definately £15 per month. It is worthwhile if you have a large package (family, movies, sport, etc.) because you can watch all of the channels on both boxes. However, it is not worth it if you only have the base pack!

Either get a Freeview box for your second TV or just plug your TV into the NTL cabling to get channels 1-5.

? Just run a coaxial cable directly from the cable box?.... and bypass the STB?... I thought the signal for all channels was digital though?...

We have the family pack and just want the option to occassionally watch TV in bed really... on top of this it would be handy to be able to record directly onto my PC (which is currently doubling up as my TV)... my PC can handle a TV/UHF input, SVHS or composite so that side of things should be fine.

Downstairs we have the main STB and this runs into a DVD recorder... the hassle here is that with a UHF input downstairs we have to record and watch.... maybe a freeview box would be handy....I think I'm more likely to keep this in the bedroom thouh which is the only room to have a UHF input from our loft aerial...because of the PC though the Freeview box would need to have a UHF, SVHS or composite video output.

You said you had NTL cabling in your bedroom already.

The NTL cable currently carries both the NTL digital and analogue services (until analogue is switched off). If you connect your bedroom TV directly to your NTL socket, you could receive channels 1-5 without the need for an aerial. (If you connect your PC to the NTL cable, you may be able to receive more channels. ;))
