Can NTL Digital be split to more than one TV?
 

Hey guys hope we are all well, I'm a NTL analogue subscruber at the moment even tho its actually cheaper to have digital. The reason behind this is the NTL analogue service transmits channels 1-5 sperately and the cable channel seperately, this allows the signal to be split between 3 TV's using a amplified splitter and all TV's can have BBC 1, BBC 2, ITV, C4, C5 & cable channel tuned in. Now if i switch to digital on my existing setup all TV's will only get one feed? is this true?

No, the signal coming into the house stays the same whether you take digital or analogue. The cable actually carries all digital and analogue channels.

oh really? surely the feed out of the setop box changes when u swap from analogue to digital? as the we go from the set top box into a amplified splitter and then off to the other tv's

You would need a bypass unit, and you would need to make certain that one would be provided - probably a good case for it if you you are currently using the bypass feed with analog, and migrate to digital.

The current digital STBs do not have an integral bypass, so without a bypass unit, you would lose those channels.

PS. Depending on the platform, you may find that ITV2 can also be tuned in through bypass. I believe this is true for ex-CWC (Bromley platform).

yeah we are ex cable and wireless customers an there is currently some extra thing on the back of our jerrorld GI Box, are these bypass things difficult to get?

the analogue by pass's are hard to come by now, i could not get hold of many last year.

for the digital box's depending on what box you get, the pace one there are loads around, and the samsung ones if ya live down south then there seem to be loads of these by pass's around there, but futher north them seem to be harder to come accross but they are around.

If you are on a jerrold and ex cable and wireless then the pass through is for your roof top aerial if i remember correctly. the digital boxes in the ex cable and wireless area have pass through so you should be ok. I hope thats correct. :)

My installer just split the coax cable before the STB. One cable now goes to the STB for digital and the second is used for terrestrial 1-5. Works great.

I thought it was the other way round - the DiTV1000 certainly seems to be without bypass, though it does have an aerial passthrough

Correct.

I have not seen a Jerrold in the area i work in that feeds the 5 free channels from the cable out of the cable box. All the Jerrold's i fitted had a aerial pass through fitted. In fact i spent 3 months changing out 100's of them on the channel 5 upgrade. The digital set tops in ex cable and wireless have the aerial pass through on the back. They do not feed the 5 of-air channels out on a separate feed.
